Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel melanin formation inhibitor exhibiting an excellent tyrosinase activity inhibitory effect and an excellent melanin formation inhibitory effect in a low concentration and excellent in the stability and safety.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a melanin formation inhibitor composed of a biphenyl compound of the formula (R is H or a 1 to 8C straight or branched-chain saturated hydrocarbon group). This inhibitor is useful as an admixture component of a cosmetic for preventing formation of a spot or a freckle due to excessive formation of melanin caused by ultraviolet rays, etc., or a medicine as a therapeutic and preventive medicine for pigmentation.
