To provide a method and apparatus for refining molten iron of low copper concentration (copper content rate) by efficiently removing copper contained in iron scrap.
A melting method includes: a first step of heating iron scrap 6 containing copper components to the temperature, at which solid copper in the copper components is melted, to melt copper; a second step of separating the molten copper from the iron scrap 6 by applying the vibration to the iron scrap 6 after the first step and/or during the first step; and a third step of melting the iron scrap 6 by using a heat source. A melting apparatus includes: a preheating device 2 for melting copper; a melting furnace 3 connected to the preheating device 1 to heat and melt the iron scrap by using the heat source; and a vibration-separating device having a vibration-imparting member 8 for imparting the vibration to the iron scrap. The vibration-separating device is provided in the preheating device 2.
