PURPOSE: To lower the melting point of a matter to be melted efficiently and to perform an economically advantageous melting process, by adding iron oxide or a substance mainly composed of iron oxide to sludge from a water-treatment process, and then melting the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: In melting dewatered cake obtained by dewatering tap water sludge, the cake is fed to a melting oven in a state mixed with iron oxide or a substance mainly composed of iron oxide, e.g. scrap obtained by shot-peening a product or descaling in ship building, piping or the like, and melted therein. This process is particularly effective when applied to the melting of tap water sludge having a higher melting point in general. It may be applied to the melting of sewage sludge or sludge obtained in the process of purifying industrial water of a factory or the like, too.
