Abstract:
To provide a melting raw material that can be efficiently melted as a melting raw material for an electron-beam melting furnace using scraps, and to provide a method of melting a metal by which the metal can be efficiently melted using the scraps.
The melting raw material for producing the metal has a surface part in which a compound layer containing at least either of oxide or nitride of a main constituent metal forming the melting raw material is formed, wherein the thickness of the compound layer is 1,000 μm or less. The melting raw material for producing the metal is melted in an electron-beam melting furnace equipped with at least one hearth.
