Abstract:

To provide a stain-resisting member capable of preventing a surface from being stained, or capable of making the surface self-cleanable or easily cleanable, and applicable to buildings, window glass, machinery and other articles, by giving hydrophilic nature to the surface.

This stain-resistant member is obtained by forming on the surface a layer containing an optical semiconductor together with at least one compound selected from the group comprising alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, zinc, aluminum, ruthenium, alumina, zirconia, ceria and yttria. The surface of the member obtains hydrophilic nature in accordance with photoexcitation of the optical semiconductor so that the contact angle of the surface with water attains 20° or less, and consequently, the deposit attaching to the surface can be easily rinsed out by washing with water or by rainfall.
