To provide a member for a diecasting machine which has excellent erosion resistance.
The member for a diecasting machine is obtained by forming a surface layer part in which chromium nitride is dispersed on the surface of a base steel. When chromium and nitrogen are diffused simultaneously or successively in this order from the surface of the base metal made of steel, chromium nitrides such as CrN and Cr2M are formed on the surface layer part in a dispersed state. These chromium nitrides have excellent erosion resistance to Al molten metal, and have a high decomposing temperature, so that they are not decomposed at a working temperature on diecasting, and have excellent stability. In the member for a diecasting machine, iron nitride can be coexistent on the surface of the base metal made of steel together with chromium nitride.
