To provide a member made of an aluminum alloy in which a high quality alumite coating having a uniform thickness, a smooth surface, and excellent hardness, corrosion resistance, wear resistance or the like regardless of the material composition of a base layer is formed.
The member is constituted of a base material 12 in which at least a portion of the surface of a base layer 10 composed of an aluminum alloy containing silicon is covered with an aluminum alloy having a silicon content lower than that of the base layer 10 or pure aluminum and an alumite layer 13 which is formed by the oxidation of a coating layer 11a covering the base layer 10 of the base material 12, that oxidation proceeds toward inside from the surface side, and has a hardness higher than the base material 12. At this time, an intermediate layer 11 may be formed between the base layer 10 and the alumite layer 13 by leaving a portion of the coating layer 11a.
