A membrane separation method for an objective-substance-containing crude solution contains microbial cells or proteins, which method includes: the step (p) of passing the objective substance in the objective substance-containing crude solution from the concentrate side of a membrane to its permeate side to separate into the concentrate and the objective-substance-containing permeate solution; and the step (q) of keeping the objective substance concentration on the concentrate side higher than the objective substance concentration on the permeate side.
