To provide a memory for an image which relieves a memory cell by a method wherein only an address is replaced without adding a spare memory or an error checking and correcting(ECC) operation to a defective memory.
An address in a defective memory cell corresponding to a part which largely affects the image recognition of a display screen is replaced by an address in a nondefective memory cell corresponding to a part which hardly affects it. An address signal is supplied to memory address decoders 2, 3 via an address converter 11 from an address input terminal IN. By the address converter 11, address data in two systems from a storage circuit 12 in which addresses A0 to An corresponding to the peripheral part of a display part are stored and from a storage circuit 13 in which specific addresses B0 to Bn are stored are compared with an address Ai in a peripheral part, an address as a specific address Bi is outputted. When the address agrees with the specific address Bi, the address Ai in the peripheral part is outputted.
