Abstract:

To deter shoplifting beforehand, by notifying of shoplifting of an merchandise article from a merchandise display rack.

A merchandise management apparatus comprises an antenna and an RFID tag reader for detecting an RFID tag, attached to each article of merchandise displayed on a merchandise display rack in a contactless manner, and a controller for controlling them. The controller causes the RFID tag reader to repeat the tag detection. Each time the RFID tag reader executes tag detection, detected RFID tags are counted. Each time the RFID tags are counted, the count is compared with the count that is given by the preceding tag detection; and if it is determined that the current count is smaller than the preceding count, an alarm is operated for notification.
