Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To classify mercury, filled in a mercury vapor discharge lamp, into effective mercury contributing to emission and consumed mercury not contributing to emission and determine both mercury.
SOLUTION: An SUS chamber 1 heated and kept to the operating temperature of a fluorescent lamp by a tape heater 3 is provided with a fluorescent lamp 12 and mercury (effective mercury) vaporized by breaking the fluorescent lamp 12 by a breaking jig 5 and evacuating is collected into a U-shape tube 10 by a liquid N2 trap 9. Mercury depositing to the internal wall of the U-shape tube 10 is dissolved and determined by an ICP emission analysis method, an atomic absorption method, or the like. As to mercury remaining on the fluorescent lamp 12 (consumed mercury), the fluorescent lamp 12 is taken out of the SUS chamber 1, and then the consumed mercury is eluted and determined in the same way as the effective mercury.
