Abstract:

To obtain a new compound having excellent thermal decomposition properties and optical properties suitable for an optical element useful for an optical recording material for an optical recording medium for a laser beam recording and an optical recording material using the compound.

The merocyanine compound is represented by general formula (I) (wherein ring A is a nitrogen-containing five-membered ring or the like; R1 is an alkyl group or the like; R2 is an alkyl group which may be replaced with a halogen or the like; R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like; and G is an oxygen atom or the like). The optical recording material uses the compound.
