Abstract:
In a compact fluorescent lamp comprising a plurality of elongated glass tubes (20-26), separate one (20, 22) of which contain respective lamp electrodes, the arc path within the lamp is completed by one or more metal arc directors (42, 52, 54) coupling adjacent open ends of the glass tubes (24, 26, 20, 24; 22, 26). The metal arc directors (42; 52; 54) are formed from suitable material, such as steel. The steel parts are vacuum fired to degas the same prior to assembly in the lamp.
