PURPOSE: To improve the deformability from the high rigidity and high strength of the metal-based composite material by adopting a structure constituted by interposing particles, short fibers, whiskers or planar small piece bodies consisting of a heat resistant material into the spacings of continuous fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A joint part 23 of an FRM part 21 and metallic base part 22 of the metal-based composite material has an outside sectional shape consisting of a straight line, curve or the combined curves thereof so as to expand gradually from the FRM part 21 side toward the metallic base part 22. In addition, the FRM part 21 and the metallic base part 22 are smoothly connected. Then, the continuous fibers are dispersed uniformly apart some spacings left therebetween, by which casting defects are decreased; in addition, the contact of the continuous fibers with each other is obviated. Since the destruction of the continuous fibers and the propagation thereof are suppressed, the strength of the FRM is improved and the boundary strength of the FRM and Al is improved as well.
