A polymer of the formula III ((w) is 10-100) is produced by the dehalogenating coupling reaction of a starting substance of the formula I (E is Si, Ge or Sn; R is an organic group; (x) is 1-6) in the presence of a catalyst. The obtained polymer is reacted with a transition metal complex in a solvent under refluxing to obtain the objective new metal complex polymer of the formula III (M is a transition metal; (m) is 0-3; (n) is 1-4; (y) is 10-100; (z) is ≥10; y:z is 0.1:0.9 to 0.5:0.5). A photoconductive material exhibiting photoconductivity even with visible light and having excellent film-forming property and light-resistance can be produced by this process.
