PURPOSE: To provide a novel compd. which has two porphyrin rings connected through a linking group, each ring having an electron-withdrawing group thereon, and is useful as a catalyst for oxidizing org. compds. (e.g. alkanes).
CONSTITUTION: This compd. is represented by formula I (wherein M is a transition metal selected from the groups I, VI, VII, and VIII of the periodic table; Y is H, alkyl, or the like; Z is hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl, or the like; R is an arom. group; and A is an anion or is not present) and is obtd. by reacting a compd. of formula II with a penafluoroaldehyde and pyrrole, reacting the resultant compd. of formula III [wherein TRIPPF15 is mesotri(pentaphenyl) porphyrin] with SO2Cl2, reacting the resultant compd. of formula IV with a pentafluoroaldehyde and pyrrole, and reacting the resultant orthodi[mesotri(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin]benzene, i.e., a gable porphyrin, with FeCl2.4H2O.
