A coating material which contains a metal-containing copolymer prepared by the copolymerization of (a) 0.1-10 mass% metal-containing polymerizable monomer and (b) 90-99.9 mass% α,β-monoethylenically-unsaturated- group-containing polymerizable monomer copolymerizable therewith retains its gloss over a long time, is excellent in coating film properties such as resistances to pollution, solvents, and thermal yellowing, and is industrially very useful.
