Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the titled copolymer having light weight, excellent transparency, moldability and safety, and high refractive index, and useful as lens, etc., by reacting an aromatic carboxylic acid with (meth)acrylic acid and a metallic compound, and copolymerizing the reaction product with a copolymerizable vinyl monomer.

CONSTITUTION: The objective resin containing glassy polymer chain and metal (excluding alkali metal) bonded to the polymer chain by ionic bond, wherein the metal content is ≥8wt% based on the total weight of the resin, and having a light transparency of ≥80% and a refractive index (nD25) of ≥1.55 is produced by copolymerizing (A) a metal-containing monomer composition prepared by reacting at least one kind of an aromatic carboxylic acid (e.g. cinnamic acid) with (meth)acrylic acid and a metallic compound and (B) at least one kind of a copolymerizable vinyl monomer (e.g. styrene).
