To obtain a metal honeycomb which is a metallic carrier for purification of exhaust gases having excellent thermal fatigue resistance and cost effectiveness by forming the contact of a corrugated band material and a flat planar band material to a specific corrugated structure and forming microcorrugations, etc., of a small waveform at the flat planar band material.
The corrugated band material 2 has the waveform of a crest height at which the corrugated band material 2 comes into contact with the flat planar band material 1 at its ends and near the same. The corrugated band material has the waveform of the crest height at which the material does not come into contact with the flat planar band material 1 in the regions exclusive thereof. Even more, the corrugated band material 2 has the microcorrugations 21a of the small waveform and/or fine projecting parts, and the exhaust gases are more highly mixed and stirred and are made turbulent. The contact reaction thereof with a catalyzer is promoted and the capability to purify the exhaust gases is improved. In addition, thermal stresses are absorbed and the catalyst carrying amt. is increased as well.
