To provide a method for forming a rough surface on an implant having a sophisticated surface geometry in order to promote integration of the implant with the bones.
The method comprises a step for preparing an orthopedic metal implant which comprises a metal body having a surface with a three-dimensional porous surface geometry and metallic elements attached on at least part of the surface, a step for exposing the surface and at least a part of the metallic elements to a predetermined etching solution, a step for washing the orthopedic metal implant, and a step for drying the orthopedic metal implant. According to the method, a metal implant having a microscale or a nanoscale surface roughness is provided while maintaining its structural integrity is maintained so as to facilitate the growth or attachment of the tissue or the bones after transplantation.
