To provide a metal impregnated composite material and a method of manufacturing the metal impregnated composite.
The metal impregnated composite material includes a reinforcing material comprising reinforcing fibers, in which the fibers are tightly packed and have discontinuous inter-fiber spaces. In addition, the composite includes metal fine particles distributed in at least some of the discontinuous inter-fiber spaces. A polymer encapsulates the reinforcing material and the metal fine particles. The method of manufacturing the metal impregnated composite comprises: a process of concurrently subjecting plies to which the polymer and the metal fine particles are applied to (1) a magnetic field oriented to facilitate urging the metal fine particles into the piles and to (2) vibration forces; and a subsequent process of consolidating the polymer and metal fine particle-containing piles under heat and pressure.
