The metal material for decoration has a surface layer which is formed by a high temperature heat treatment under low oxygen partial pressure of ≤100 Pa and composed of a valve metal oxide film. A layer directly below the surface layer is composed of a valve metal and a noble metal (excluding silver (Ag), the same applies hereinafter), and the noble metal is deposited and dispersed in the crystal grain boundary of the valve metal. In the range from the surface to a vertical depth of 30 μm, the crystal of the valve metal is a slender crystal grain in the vertical cross section from the surface, and in the range from the surface to a vertical depth of 30 μm, the content of the noble metal is 5 atom% or less.
