To provide a metal mold design method for designing a metal mold having good seizure resistance in an easy and simple manner and a metal mold casting method for effectively preventing the seizure, for metal mold casting of heat resistant magnesium alloy containing calcium.
The metal mold design method comprises: a metal mold model setting step of modeling the metal mold having only a desired product-shaped cavity; a metal mold temperature analysis step of analyzing a cooling-solidification process of molten metal in the cavity and obtaining the temperature distribution data of the metal mold; a locally cooling setting step of setting a locally cooling means for cooling only a seizure predicted portion by specifying the portion based on the analysis result; and a gate setting step of setting the gate shape so that the flowing speed of the molten metal in the gate part obtained by fluid analysis becomes a prescribed value. The metal mold casting method is characterized in that coating parting agent is applied onto the seizure predicted portion while using the metal mold designed by the above method.
