To provide a metal-refining method which can produce a refined high-purity metal by preventing a speed at which the metal solidifies on the peripheral surface of a coolant, from increasing right after the coolant has been dipped in a molten metal to be refined, and also can prevent the crystallized metal from exfoliating due to a centrifugal force originating from the rotation of the coolant, when the crystallized metal has decreased its adhesiveness to the coolant, and to provide an apparatus therefor.
In a process for refining the metal by the steps of dipping a coolant 3 in a molten metal 2 to be refined and crystallizing a high-purity metal on the surface of the coolant while rotating the coolant 3, this metal-refining method includes setting the temperature of the coolant 3 when the coolant 3 is dipped in the molten metal 2, at solidus temperature of the metal to be refined 0.6 or higher.
