To provide a metal strip coiling method capable of coiling a tail end of a metal strip after the cutting with a simple configuration while preventing telescopic winding.
In the metal strip coiling method for coiling a tail end of a metal strip 1 after the cutting in which a coiling pinch roll 5 and a tension reel 6 are arranged so as to satisfy an inequality B/(B+C)>0.7, a restrained roll 3 consisting of a pair of upper and lower free rolls 9, 10 with one thereof being elevated/lowered and the other thereof having an air brake 16 on its shaft is arranged between a cutting machine 2 and the pinch roll 5 for coiling so as to hold the metal strip 1 and to satisfy an inequality D/B≥0.60. When the tail end of the metal strip 1 is wound after the cutting by the restrained roll 3, the metal strip 1 is held, and the tail end is wound while providing the tension to the metal strip by utilizing the braking force of an air brake 16.
