In the metal tone coating film 1 in which a primer layer 2 composed of powdery paint, a metallic base layer 3, and a clear layer 4 are formed in this order on the surface of a metal substrate 1, the metallic base layer 3 contains a rich coloring pigment 32 and a metallic pigment 31 containing leaved aluminum flake 32, and has a thickness ranging from 3 to 50μm. At least a part of the metallic pigments 31 are oriented along the surface of the clear layer 4, and many rich coloring pigments 32 are distributed at the side near the primer layer 2.
