PURPOSE: To decrease the noises in laser output light without decreasing the power of the laser output power, by dividing a discharge space into a mixed discharge region of a gas and the metal vapor and a substantial gas discharge region.
CONSTITUTION: A metal reservoir 30 is attached to a capillary 10 wherein the mixed discharge of He gas and Cd vapor is generated. The opening of said metal reservoir 30 to the capillary 10 is positioned within about 5cm from an anode 20 along the path of the discharge generated between the anode 20 and a cathode 26. A heater 34 is provided in said metal reservoir 30 in order to heat the Cd vapor. Therefore the Cd vapor from the metal reservoir 30 directly flows into the capillary 10, and the concentration in the capillary 10 is uniformly kept at a sufficiently adequate value.
