Abstract:
A poly-unsaturated cyclic polymer can be prepared by the polymerization of alkyne monomers with a catalyst that is selected from trianionic pincer ligand supported metal-alkylidyne complexes, tetraanionic pincer ligand supported metal-alkynes, or tetraanionic pincer ligand supported metallacycloalkylene complexes. The [O2C(tBuC=)W(η2-HC≡ CtBu)](4)provides high polymerization rates and high molecular weight cyclic polymers. The poly-unsaturated cyclic polymers can be hydrogenated to saturated cyclic polymers. A cyclic polyphenylacetylene can be converted into a cyclic polystyrene.
