Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the metallic carrier for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst using an elastic holding material which is not thermally expanded at high temps. and without a bearing pressure being exerted on a honeycomb body.
SOLUTION: A flat sheet 2a consisting of a heat-resistant metallic foil and a corrugated sheet 2b are placed on each other and spirally wound to obtain a honeycomb body 2, and the periphery of the honeycomb body 2 is sheathed with a fibrous elastic holding member 3 which is not thermally expanded even in a high-temp. atmosphere and having the inner and outer layers different in density to form the metallic carrier for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst. Especilly, the holding member 3 is preferably formed with a fibrous mat having an inner layer 3a low in density and an outer layer 3b high in density.
