PURPOSE: To provide a carrier excellent in ability to prevent disconnection between both elements of a metallic honeycomb body and a metallic casing and excellent in durability in the axial direction and radial direction of the metallic honeycomb body in the carrier composed of the metallic honeycomb body and the metallic casing.

CONSTITUTION: In the metallic carrier composed of the metallic honeycomb body for carrying an exhaust gas purifying catalyst and the metallic casing for housing the metallic honeycomb body, the metallic honeycomb body is formed by using a desired number of stacks (S1-Sn, where (n) is integers of ≥1) formed by laminating alternatively a thin metallic plate-made planar belt- like material and a corrugated belt-like material in a desired number of stages and winding around a winding tool and the planar belt-like material 1 and/or the corrugated belt-like material 2, which constitutes each stack (S1-Sn), have notched parts at both end parts in contact with the inside wall surface of the metallic casing.
