In a metallic carrier MS composed of a flat metallic honeycomb body H composed of a corrugated beltlike material 1 and a flat beltlike material 2 for carrying a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas and metallic casing C for enveloping and fixing the honeycomb body H, the contact parts of both the beltlike materials 1, 2 are brazed in at least the rear end part region of the honeycomb body H in the axial direction, and the outside of the honeycomb body H and the inside of the casing C are bonded by brazing in broad brazing regions of the honeycomb body H in the axial direction at the outsides of the minor axis parts of the rear end part of the honeycomb body H and by brazing in narrow brazing regions of the honeycomb body H in the axial direction at the outsides of the major axis parts of the rear end part.
