To improve the capacity of siding by using a formed body of calcium silicate having specified specific gravity, bending strength, and composition, as a backing material for a metallic siding.
A backing material 2 made of a formed body of calcium silicate is attached to a surface metallic plate 1 to constitute a matellic siding for an external wall. An aqueous slurry containing 1-50 pts.wt. of solid of an aqueous polymer compound which is composed of a main chain and side chains and an amphoteric polymer compound having 50 thousands to 5 millions in the whole molecular weight and water to 100 pts.wt. of solid of an aqueous slurry chiefly containing calcium silicate hydrates such as xenotlite, tobermolite, etc., is formed and dried to form the backing material 2 having a specific gravity of 0.05-0.3 and a bending strength of 5-60 kg/cm2. In this way, a light-weight siding can be obtained and the noncombustibility and the earthquake resistance can be improved. Further, since it has a high strength, it can be integrally formed together with a long span metallic siding and an excellent ductility against an external force can be brought out and further, condensation can be prevented.
