Title:
METALLIC SUBSTRATE FOR CATALYST
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0780327
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the metallic substrate for catalyst which is not easily oxidized even if a catalyst acts on the substrate at a high temp. and excellent in resistance to heat and oxidation by coating the substrate surface to be coated with a carrier layer with a film of platinum, palladium or platinum-palladium alloy.

CONSTITUTION: Stainless steel, etc., are used for the metallic substrate for catalyst as in the case of the conventional one, and a noble metal film impermeable to oxygen or oxygen ion is formed on the substrate surface to prevent the deterioration when the substrate is used in a high-temp. reaction such as combustion reaction. The film is formed with platinum, palladium or a platiunm- palladium alloy. These noble metals are impermeable to oxygen. Any trouble is not caused as long as the oxygen impermeability is not decreased even if the activity as catalyst is lowered. The film should be uniformly formed so that pinholes, etc., are not formed on the substrate surface.
