Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a stereorigid metallocene compound capable of being advantageously used as a catalyst component in producing transparent cycloolefin copolymers having a high tear strength by bonding specific ligands in a specific form.
CONSTITUTION: A stereorigid metallocene compound contains, as ligands, at least two substituted or unsubstituted cyclopenta-dienyl groups bonded to one another via a monocyclic or polycyclic ring system, in which at least one cyclopentadienyl group is fused to the monocyclic or polycyclic ring system. Provided that metallocenes containing, as the ligand system, a 4-(η5-3'-alkyl- cyclopentadienyl)-4,6,6-trimethyl(η5-2-alkyl-4,5-tetrahydro-pentalene) are excluded. This metallocene compound is used in the copolymerization of a polycyclic olefin with a noncyclic 1-olefin and, if necessary, a monocyclic olefin in the presence of a cocatalyst. The cocatalyst is preferably an aluminoxane.
