Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:An acrylic or methacrylic acid ester.
USE: A coating material for optical glass fibers used in optical transmission. Resin compositions and coating agents using this compound have a high curing rate, low glass transition point as well as low water absorption and are capable of providing flexible resin films with hardly any change of physical properties of the films over a wide temperature range from high to low temperatures.
PREPARATION: A compound having ≤1,000mol.wt. and one OH in the molecule, e.g. methanol, is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula (R1 is H or CH3; a and b are 5W10) in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. amines, at -50W+200°C to afford the titled compound.
