Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new low-viscosity compound having a high refractive index and useful as a raw material for a resin composition for lenses such as a prism lens sheet for a Fresnel lens, a lenticular lens or a thin-film transistor(TFT) used in a video projector, a projection TV, etc., a spectacle lens, etc.
SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula (R is H or methyl; n is 1-5). The compound represented by the formula is obtained by carrying out an addition reaction of, e.g. 9-fluorenylmethanol with ε-caprolactone in the presence of a catalyst such as stannous chloride, preferably at 70-200°C and then reacting the resultant compound with (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of preferably an esterification catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid or methanesulfonic acid and a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone or p-methoxyphenol. The compound represented by the formula and an unsaturated group-containing compound other than the compound represented by the formula are included to thereby afford a flexible resin composition rapidly curable with ultraviolet rays and capable of providing a cured product having a high refractive index.
