PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composition outstanding in transparency, heat resistance and resistance to discoloration on heating, useful as various filters, etc., by reaction with an amine of such a resin as to contain methyl methacrylate unit as the chief constituent and contain specified amount of methyl methacrylate dimer.
CONSTITUTION: A resin which contains methyl methacrylate unit as the chief constituent and contains ≤1,000(pref. ≤250)ppm of methyl methacrylate dimer is allowed to react with an amine of formula RNH2 (R is H or 1W20C hydrocarbon) (e.g. methylamine, aniline) in such a state that said resin is dissolved in a solvent mixture for said resin (e.g. a mixture of benzene, toluene and aliphatic alcohol), thus obtaining the objective methacrylic resin composition comprising a methacrylic resin containing methacrylimide unit of formula, with a yellowing degree (YIs) in the form of a solution of the resin composition heated ≤3 and whole light transmittance 89W95%.
