To provide a method for producing gaseous methane from organic matter raw materials containing ligneous portions.
The raw materials in the form of chips are deposited and the raw materials, water and mud are put into a tank upon confirmation of the initiation of rotting thereof under aerobic conditions in the state of maintaining the form of the chips and are cultured under anaerobic conditions. The mud is selected from the mud in lotus root fields filled with water, the mud in the stagnating portions of rivers containing the organic matter to some extent due to domestic waste water or waste water of hot spring bathrooms, the mud in the bottom of lakes and ponds containing much of the organic matter, etc., and the mud which is suitable for inhabitation of both of hydrogen producing bacteria and methanogens and contains both is used. The method of producing the methane using garbage and the above mud is also provided. The effect of utilizing the waste of the ligneous system, treatment of which is heretofore difficult, and the effect of efficiently using the methane are obtained.
