PURPOSE: To obtain the dye of two chromophores excellent in the fixing and thermal transfer properties to a receiving medium, light fastness, stability against a chemical substance and water, org. solvent solubility or the like and also useful for the coloration of a polyester or the like by selecting a specific methine dye.
CONSTITUTION: A methine dye represented by formula I {wherein L is a crosslinking member not permitting the conjugation of the π-electron between Z and Y; X is cyano, 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl, 1-6C monoalkylcarbonyl, 5-7C cycloalkoxycarbonyl, 5-7C monocycloalkylcarbamoyl, phenoxycarbonyl or monophenylcarbamoyl; and Z and Y form groups represented by formulae II-IV [wherein R1 is (alkoxy)alkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, alkanoyloxyalkyl, H, benzyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl or tollyl; and R2 and R3 are each, H, 1-8C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, 1-6C alkanoylamino or 1-6C alkylsulfonylamino] or the like together with the crosslinking member L} is selected.
