Abstract:
To provide a manufacturing method of a carboxyl group-containing copolymer capable of effectively manufacturing a polymer with a desired weight average molecular weight.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method of a carboxyl group-containing copolymer, including a process for polymerizing a monomer component containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid-based monomer (A), and a polyalkylene glycol-based monomer (B) forming a structural unit (b) represented by the formula (1) by using a chain transfer agent containing a phosphorous atom-containing compound, and in the polymerization process, a polymerization initiator may be used in a polymerization reaction, and the polymerization is conducted in at least 50% of time under a condition of a reaction temperature of 70 to 90°C when time from polymerization reaction initiation to addition completion of the latest addition of the monomer component, the chain transfer agent and a polymerization initiator is 100%. In the formula, Rto Rare each independently H, a methyl group; (AO) is an oxyalkylene group; n is an integer of 2 to 80; x is an integer of 0 to 2; y is 0 or 1.SELECTED DRAWING: None
