Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a high-purity metal iridium having reliable grindability from an iridium chloride solution.SOLUTION: The method of producing the metal iridium from the iridium chloride solution includes: a step of heating the iridium chloride solution after adding an oxidant thereto; a step of adding alkali to a solution obtained by heating the iridium chloride solution after adding the oxidant thereto, to generate an iridium hydroxide; a step of collecting the iridium hydroxide from the solution, and thereafter burning the iridium hydroxide in an reductive atmosphere at 500 to 700°C, to produce coarse iridium; a step of grinding the coarse iridium; and a step of burning the coarse iridium thus ground in the reductive atmosphere at 800 to 1,000°C to produce the metal iridium.
