To provide a method for industrially simply producing such a nonionic surfactant composition that solubility of the composition in water is high, an aqueous solution thereof has a narrow gelling region, and the composition is easily mixed into a product, when the product is produced.
This method for producing the nonionic surfactant composition which contains an addition product of an alkylene oxide to a polyhydric alcohol or a 1-4C lower monohydric alcohol comprises reacting an active hydrogen-containing compound (not including the polyhydric alcohol nor the lower monohydric alcohol) with the alkylene oxide in the presence of at least one kind selected from the polyhydric alcohol and the lower monohydric alcohol.
