PURPOSE: To obtain allylated aniline derivatives easily in a good yield by allylating perhaloalkyl aniline, etc., by placing an allyl halide in contact with a perhaloalkyl aniline, etc., in a solvent using a catalytic amount of a metal such as Pd.
CONSTITUTION: An allyl halide such as allyl chloride is placed in contact with a perhaloalkyl aniline, perhaloalkoxy aniline, or perhalothioalkyl aniline of the formula (A is a covalent bond, O, S; X1-X5 are halogen; n is 0-2; R is H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, aryl) such as m-trifluoromethyl aniline at 50-120°C for 2-24 hr in a nonprotonic polar solvent such as acetonitrile in the presence of a catalytic amount of a metal selected from Pd, Cu, and Ni such as PdCl2, Cu(OAc), NiSO4 to obtain an intended compound such as N-allyl perhaloalkyl aniline.
