Abstract:

To enable detecting the density of functional glutamic acid acceptors in space and in time as desired and to enable mapping.

An agonist whose active site is inactivated by a protective group is administered to a gap between the nerve cells and is activated by the application of a laser beam 1, so that the agonist is administered selectively to a micro illuminated region. Then a calcium-ion detecting pigment is introduced into the cells and calcium ions flowing into the cells are determined quantitatively on the basis of the fluorescence of the calcium ion detecting pigment, so that the density of functional glutamic acid acceptors in the micro region illuminated with the laser beam 1 and its variation are measured.
