To provide a method and apparatus for applying a viscous material whereby applying conditions of a viscous material enabling proper coating state to be obtained can be easily set, lightening the load on workers; and the time for switching the types of machines can be reduced, improving productivity.
In the method and apparatus, a coating unit made so as to supply a viscous material to a store chamber and so as to apply delivery pressure to the viscous material in the store chamber is used; the viscous material is applied by contacting a coating medium with the delivery port of the coating unit and by causing the coating unit and the coating medium to relatively travel while applying delivery pressure to the viscous material in the store chamber; and depending on the production conditions, data of coating conditions registered in advance are selected to set coating conditions such as the travelling speed of the coating unit or the delivery pressure of the viscous material.
