A method for charging a raw material into an electric furnace 1, in which the raw material is charged through a chute 4 into the electric furnace 1 for melting the raw material, includes charging the raw material by using a raw material charging apparatus 3 having a turning mechanism 5 that turns the chute 4 about a first shaft so that a bottom edge of the chute 4 moves along a locus of a circular arc when viewed from the top of the electric furnace 1, and a tilting mechanism 6 that tilt the chute 4 about a second shaft so that the position of the bottom edge of the chute 4 is changed in a radial direction of the electric furnace 1.
