PURPOSE: To form a coating film smoothly and uniformly in coating on a flat plate, cylindrical body etc. by bringing the coating into contact with the coating surface of the body to be coated as a free falling liquid flow and pulling up the body at low speed.

CONSTITUTION: Coating is fed to a coating tank 2 by a coating pump 11 and flows down on a liquid film guide plate 3 to form a liquid film. This liquid film flow is formed as steady flow having a constant flow rate by a flow rate control valve 13, and held by a coating object fixing device 5 near the discharge end of the liquid film guide plate when the flow makes free falling in a coating tank 4. It comes into contact with the coating surface of an object 1 to be coated which is carried upward at a prescirbed speed by a lifting gear 6 being hung by a coating object holder 7 through a hanger 8. Then, it is coated on the object to be coated to form a coating film. The liquid film that has not adhered is discharged from the bottom of the coating tank to a coating recovering tank 9 and recirculated by the coating pump.
