Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for roll-forming a face pattern onto a pattern forming die having a pattern receiving face, using an initial pattern forming tool and a subsequent pattern forming tool.SOLUTION: A initial pattern forming tool 200 and a subsequent pattern forming tool have generally cylindrical pattern defining surfaces, and relatively and sequentially reciprocate and rotate the pattern defining surfaces and a pattern receiving face 52 of a forming die blank 50 while engaging them and urging them to impress the pattern of the pattern defining surfaces into the pattern receiving face. An apparatus 100 for performing the process includes: a platen 102 for the pattern forming die 50; the initial pattern forming tool 200 and the subsequent pattern forming tool having the generally cylindrical pattern defining surfaces; a drive mechanism 118 for relatively and sequentially reciprocating and rotating the pattern defining surfaces and the pattern receiving face of the forming die blank; and a relative movement mechanism 103 for engaging the surfaces to impress the pattern of the pattern defining surfaces of the pattern forming tools into the pattern receiving face of the forming die blank.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
