Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with a pressure container and a steam generator by pressing the side surface of wood by a heated mold.
SOLUTION: Wood W is inserted in the gap between unit molds and softened by the heat generated by a heater 61a and piston rods 203a 230d are advanced by operating hydraulic cylinders 23a-23d. Next, a hydraulic cylinder 28 is operated and the heat-resistant rubber plate 33 of a first pressure adjusting lid 31 is brought into contact with the end surface of wood W under pressure and a hydraulic cylinder 29 is operated and the leading end of the press blade 43 of a second pressure adjusting lid 41 is allowed to bite into the end surface of the wood W. Whereupon, the pressure in the tissue of the wood W is raised by passing resistance when steam passes through temporary vessels and the interior of the wood W is held to a high pressure state so far as steam is generated. When pressure in through-passages 33, 34 rises to predetermined pressure, pressure adjusting valves 35, 45 are opened and pressure is held. By this constitution, the shape of the wood W becomes stable gradually and a phenol compd. or the like is formed in the wood W.
