Abstract:
PURPOSE: To effectively and easily consolidate soft ground by a method in which a horizontal drain is laid under the surface of extra-soft ground, end of the drain is connected to a vacuum tube, and the soft ground is consolidated.
CONSTITUTION: A horizontal drain 9 is laid under the surface layer of extra-soft ground 1 reclamated by a pump ship, etc., by means of a base ship 2 slidable on water surface. One end of the drain 9 is connected to a vacuum tube 12 and consolidating and dewatering operations are made without sucking surface water and air. In covering the soft ground, the surface layer can thus be easily and effectively consolidated under vacuum condition.
